How to Eradicate Hornets
Hornets are created with a sting that could bring too much pain or even kill a person if he is allergic to it. These insects are very dangerous because they are so sensitive to be able to detect a threat when someone is near their nest; in times of threats, they will always attack anything or anyone. If you can find hornets around your backyard, try to observe if there are activities around. Once you can see any activity, for sure, they have a nest nearby. You cannot just let the day pass without doing something about it as they are a threat to your family especially to your little children. Although it sounds cruel, but it is just advisable to eradicate them immediately; it is your family or them.
You may follow these steps to eliminate the colony of the hornets:
Step 1
Your first priority must be yourself. So you will need to have protective materials and other things important to eliminate the hornets such as:
- Long sleeve shirts and overalls. If you have really thick clothing, that would be good.
- Hornet Killer insecticides or poison. Choose those which have fast effect.
- Gloves and goggles are advised to protect your hands and eyes.
- A thick sack to put the nest in after you are done.
Step 2
While doing your procedure, be sure to wear your protective suits. It is always advisable to do it at night while all the hornets are resting; they neither look for food nor guard their nest at night because they have low visibility when dark. Remember that you will kill them all. So the best time to do it is when they are most fragile and vulnerable; when they are sleeping.
Step 3
When locating for their nest, try to cover your flashlight with any red filters and don't point the light directly to the nest; that will wake them off and put them on guard.
Step 4
When spraying, be sure to locate the entrance first which is usually found at the bottom part of the nest. Spray sufficient poison into the entrance as well as the outside covering; spray all around. Now, you might want to consider buying the fast-acting poison.
Step 5
If you think you have sprayed much poison inside, take few steps back. There will always be others that are still able to fight you off. Get your sack ready.
Step 6
Once there is not much of a commotion in the nest, you can pluck the nest off the branch to fall into your sack. Be sure to secure it inside your durable sack; tie the top leaving no opening for air. You cannot be sure if all of them really died because of the poison. So don't take any chances.
Step 7
Removing the nest is a good choice as there are still others which will still thrive after a month or two in the same nest. You can burn the sack with the nest inside. Be sure to dispose of it carefully as you have used a poison which can also poison human.
Step 8
Clean the surrounding and create smoke every now and then to drive away other hornets which are looking for a place to dwell
